That’d be great, if they had any content. They’re about on par with Paramount plus in my mind. Which I’m also never going to pay for.

Paramount plus has Nickelodeon, so it’s actually pretty good if you have kids.

I only have it because it comes included with Walmart+, but it’s gotten more use than I ever expected it would.

I used to have Paramount Plus for Big Brother before I got tired of it, it’s good for that “reality” genre. Also nice to have a news channel which is not an offering on the larger streaming networks.

My family had paramount plus for a year (or maybe six months?) through T-Mobile. I think we watched one movie on it the whole time.

Workaholics, star trek and Nickelodeon. I watched more of that than any other Netflix for a couple of weeks. I’m also interested in the Frasier show, hopefully it is decentm

I picked them up a few months ago so I could watch Clerks 3 and Ghostbusters Afterlife. Then I ended up watching Spartacus, Ash vs Evil Dead, and Outlander. There’s a few other things on there I’d like to see, but I don’t think it’s enough to justify a yearly subscription considering how little TV I watch. Once they have John Wick 4 and I get through that, then I’ll probably cancel.

What? Market forces actually having an impact on pricing?

      Say it ain’t so!

This means… they were able to do this all along but chose not to because they weren’t forced to. Huh. Funny that. I’m always told businesses need to charge the prices they do to stay afloat.

I had no idea what stars was streaming so I looked them up. Never heard of most of these shows. I think I know why they had to drop the price.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Starz has lowered its annual subscription price from $74.99 a year to $69.99, Cord Cutters first reported and TechCrunch later confirmed.

Starz emailed its subscribers the news on August 29th, explaining existing members will see the change in price on their next bill.

It’s not clear why Starz, which is home to TV shows like Outlander, The Serpent Queen, and Minx, made the move, but it’s a welcome one.

Meanwhile, Paramount Plus increased the price of its monthly plan back in late June.

You could read that change as part of a greater strategy to entice customers into paying more upfront for the annual plan.

Regardless of why the annual plan is cheaper, if you’re the type to set up a subscription and forget about it for a few years, this is a win.

Seems pretty obvious within the sentence itself.

Not everyone defaults to piracy when things are priced sanely.

Yeah. Only people with more sense than wealth spend their money wisely.

Suckers on the other hand are glad to pay for things they could get for free just to make rich people richer.

Or, people with enough money are happy for convenience over the headache and risk of piracy. But I get your point.

I mean, at least that’s the ANNUAL rate, which comes to less than six dollars per month! If Netflix were that cheap, I wouldn’t have cancelled their account with me.

      Per year.

Starz itself increased monthly subscription costs from $8.99 to $9.99 just a few months ago.

It is interesting that the annual is so much cheaper.

i think that’s gonna become the norm as prices keep going up and up… hopping from service to service. binge. switch. repeat. maybe a month ‘off’ here and there.

i’m still on hiatus from paid services here. been nearly a year since my last paid ‘month’ anywhere. tubi, pluto and rokuchannel have been ‘good enough’–i don’t even miss the subs at this point.

My guess is payment platform fees, when you only need to make 1 payment a year that could save $0.30 x 11 or $3.30 a year in fees (assuming they use stripe).

You either hate Stars or don’t understand that’s cheaper than any other streaming company.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t know a dang thing about them but for 5.99 I would be willing to try it for a month.

I remember when their VOD was first a thing maybe 10-15 years ago back when my parents had cable. They had a pretty decent selection, they just didn’t rotate content too often. No idea where they’re at now though.
