The Calgary Humane Society is investigating after a dead kitten was found in the southwest community of Kingsland on Monday.

Peace officers found the feline zip-tied to a fence.

A necropsy determined the animal suffered blunt force trauma to its head and abdomen.

Officials say seven kittens in total, all in the range of six to eight weeks old, have been found in public spaces in “various states of distress” since May 30. Of those, two are dead.

“In several of these cases, kittens’ paws have been bound and they have been covered in a tar-like substance,” said the humane society.

You do this every day. It is just kept out of sight. There are 80 billion land animals currently suffering ast livestock. They will each experience atrocity on par with these kittens. The humans you pay to kill animals suffer inestimable psychological trauma, just because you like the taste of bacon and you are willing to exploit a human’s poverty to get it. Act with integrity and care about cows, pigs and chickens the same way you care about kittens and puppies. The animals we create are morally equivalent to our own children and are owed the exact same unconditional love and protection. The experiences of animals are real and matter. Their suffering is identical in nature to your own. It harms us when we take pleasure in cruelty and violence.

these statements don’t smack of scientific rigor.

Guy. You’re being obtuse. But okay, I’ll play along.

When you buy bacon, is it alive? No. How did it get dead? Someone killed it. Did that person do it for free? No, of course not, it’s an incredibly traumatizing job that people hate to do and they only do it because they are poor and can be exploited. Some of the money that you paid for that bacon necessarily goes to killing a pig. How the fuck can you even pretend you don’t see that.

this isn’t evidence. it’s storytelling. and it’s not even an accurate storytelling. The people who do the killing are paid by somebody who isn’t me and they are paid long before I decide whether to buy my food.
