He also sells his cars around the world and Tesla is doing well even when facing competition from other Chinese EVs. Tariffs are just an excuse to protect those laggard car companies who can only produce internal combustion vehicles.

Tesla also has a gigafactory & Supercharger factory in China. If Musk pissed them off, China could slap huge tariffs coming out of those factories.
They don’t really compete in the same market.
