You would have to define how you’re using “have to” here. I mean, I wouldn’t try to come and attack you for neither agreeing not disagreeing with a subject you still managed to have such strong a need to inject in.

Partly because you might be bigger than me but mostly because I generally only see doing that as soemthing I strongly frown upon, in even the most severe of cases. I’m not particularly keen on forcing people to do anything, in fact.

Really, though only you can answer that question.

I’m glad we agree that our lives are probably better now than they for the people who literally had to live in caves, thousands of years ago, though. Thank you for including that important point.

  • Work has never been so unstressful, if you look back at the history of mankind.

I agree that it was even worse before. Although, I’m a little puzzled as to what point is being made. Are you agreeing with me or not? I can’t tell.

Industrialization killed workers with 60 hour shifts in unsafe environments. Middle ages made you work 18 hours a day once you were 7 and made you starve if the harvest was bad. In the stone age your family died from hunger after you got killed on the hunt.

Life expectancy was never as high as today.

Looking back at what I wrote, what point is all this agreeing with or refuting?

To me, it seems like you’re arguing that the passage of time is a good thing. I don’t remember saying that the passage of time wasn’t good.

    Its work

Working, in the way that we do, takes years off of our lives and ruins the quality of life of people in their final years too.

I mean, its a meme and the message is put across very well but, for me, an important distinction for the comments section is that wealth increases life, as much as, if not more than poverty decreases it. Its wealth specifically and not wages too. After a certain point, increased wages actually have an inverse effect on lifespan which I’m sure comes as no surprise to anyone and the reason is both self explanatory and further supports what I’m saying.

Just so its been said, wealth, in these instances, refers to capital that makes you money. More specifically, wealth gives you money from NOT from working.

The exact point at which life expectancy and QoL increases is always around the exact level of wealth and passive income someone would need to drastically lower their working hours or stop completely.

A second argument: women live longer than men. There are some biological factors for this, such as oestrogen being a vasodilator etc. However, it wasn’t really enough to explain the differences we were seeing.

The thing is, this unexplained gap has started getting smaller and smaller. Now, unless there’s been a fundamental change in the average womans physiology recently, only one thing has changed in our society to the extent that it could effect something like this. Its also filtering through at around the exact time it should be, were the trend to be caused work.

Nothing else reconciles all of the positions, let alone so perfectly and in one single stroke.

    Edit: so many typos

  • Don’t worry, you can consol yourself with all the great new rock music being made

Tbf, even as someone around the same age as you, I can’t even make my own. Like, purely as a hobby but it all comes out as like stuff from the late 60s and early 70s. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t make the rock/guitar music i grew up with.

I could always drown it in fuzz or hide the guitars, like everyone else these days I guess.

I’m just having a moan. I think its partly the emergance of rap etc. but also a generation traumatised by covid might not be into the same leary, brash rock sounds others might like. I mean, hearing it live with a huge crown thats full of energy makes such a difference. I’m hoping when there’s a higher percentage who experienced it live during those years instead, it might get better.

Of course, you do you. But, traditionally, in these situations people would just not read the comment and move on. They wouldn’t announce to everyone that they won’t be reading it because it’s a weird thing to do. I mean, could you imagin everyone writing that under every comment they didn’t read?

That would be a bit silly wouldn’t it?

  • OK, now hear me out first

Reddit is the halo of social media.

The wildness you used to get up to on the multilayer was on a new level. There was nothing like that before. On one level you were fighting back the orange hordes from the front pages, the next level you were fighting wealth hording dragons and ripping them off by playing them at their own game. On the last level they let you have freedom on, they were gearing up to try and kill a god. I mean, I don’t know how far antiwork would have gone in the end but it seemed to have been estimated far enough that action had to be taken and the threat neutralised. We might well not have killed that particular God but I reckon we could’ve given them a bloody nose all the same.

Then they parted ways with the people who actually made the game good and what you ended up with is a shite, soulless over corporatised shell of what it was before, thats little more than the skins from a game you used to enjoy transposed into one that you don’t.

  • What is also true is that its the mentality of a depressive who views hope as a dangerous delusion, as had been said a fair few times now.

It is lashing out, as you can’t refute it or engage it.

Dismissing a legitimate observation of our society as a silly caricature is a far more silly caricature of someone who just doesn’t like what they’re hearing.

Existence is measured in money, under capitalism. Why would you lying about it and not meaning make any difference? As long as you’re doing what you were paid to do, it would have the same appearance and the same effect. I would take the money too, as its the most important thing in society and existance is measured in it. Thats the point here. Why would I care what was in your heart of hearts?

No, none of the other systems survived an attack by a system that cannot tolerate any alternatives to live unmolested. Had any of them failed of their own accord, you might have a point there. You can’t shoot someone in the leg and then declare that their claims of being able to run didn’t survive an encounter with reality.

Trying to improve capitalism has never survived an encounter with reality. All it did was make the rich richer.

Capitalism didn’t improve feudalism. Firstly, capitalism grew out of merchantislism. Secondly, merchantislism had to be forced on people who had been robbed of their homes and were facing starvation. Had they any other option than starving, they would have stuck with feudalism.

  • The first paragraph is literally the same “I can’t justify capitalism but the others are worse” argument again.

The society we live in is an employment based, market fundamentalist society. It just used to be a different kind of fundamentalist theocratic rule is all.

Instead of lashing out and calling it a silly caricature, you can just say “I just plain don’t like that.” It would have had the same effect.

That being said, how much money would it take for you to change your mind about existence being measured in terms of money alone being a silly caricature? Even if you were the type to give it all away, eventually, we would find a number. Not only that, you’d be a multi millionaire and, as such, on that basis alone, your existence would be judged as an inherently good one.
