i honestly hate the show because it’s not at all accurate to the books either in spite of that being the bulk of their marketing. that said, the two swords things comes entirely from the games. in the books he makes comments a few times about the fancy metals in his swords helping kill monsters, but he only has one at a time.

what do you mean pairing? what kind of os do you plan to put on the mini pc? the biggest hurdle is going to be hdcp compliance with any legal streaming service. something like kodi on the other hand, just works like any other pc? a mini pc is just that. a mini pc. there’s nearly infinite method to connect streaming services to a pc. I have a Plex server, but it doesn’t play nice with all content, so honestly, i usually just use my network storage and pull things straight from the file browser. load them into media player classic with madvr.
I know there’s newer systems that do fancier things, but I’m content. I need to upgrade my nas to be better able to transcode x265 video streams. that’s s big drawback on Plex for me. my biggest use case is watching things virtually with friends. it’s how i watch movies with people. my server can current encode a single x265 video stream pretty well, but the second it has more than one client it chugs. forget it if 4 people want a 4k movie. I would need a crazy beefy rig to run that. it also won’t convert hdr without paying. most of my friends aren’t trying to watch on an hdr screen.
so, we’re back to me streaming via discord screenshare. it’s not the best, but at least i don’t need to keep a separate 4k hdr copy of movie for myself and a 1080p x264 copy for Plex that way. mad vr will even handle the hdr conversion for me when I stream.
it works well enough, though I’m open to suggestions as well. it needs to be easy for the clients to use. it can be hard for me, that’s fine, but jellyfin is too much for most of my friends and family. Plex is already pushing it.
better hardware has always been an advantage, but this is more in line with bmw charging a subscription for heated seats. it’s a new stage of nickel and dime monetization. and just because there’s existing ways to use money to gain an advantage doesn’t mean we should be inventing new ones. rich people don’t need the help, and these companies don’t need the money. accepting and enabling them on this will continue to consent to more and worse pay to win features.
this is explicitly and exclusively a feature to improve performance. whether it’s effective is irrelevant. they intend to let you pay to gain an advantage natively in game. a non scummy game would instead try to minimize and mitigate the differences created by hardware, not add new ways to widen that gap.

during the one outage i experienced in the three years I’ve had them i was quickly able to find multiple places to see status updates about the hardware issue they had and it was fixed in under an hour.
they also have a 2.5 gig and a 10 gig option for reasonable prices. I don’t think many other companies even offer anything above 1 gig outside of business packages.
it will be difficult for me to move anywhere else. with the work that i do this has been life-changing. come to Longmont Colorado, we have good Internet, amazing mountain sunsets, and lots of tacos.
i love my government Internet. it’s one of the biggest things keeping me here.
yeah funny enough, this is more of a recent thing. it’s still spreading at the moment. isps over here just kind of got it in their head that they could make extra money with this one day.

I had that once in highschool, so no Dean to escalate to or anything. principal took his side. the problem was, due to medical issues, i struggled to get assignments done at home. this class was 90% essays, but it was also just a history class. 100% of the material was covered in the lecture. I’m autistic and tend to remember lectures very well. so, come time for the final exam, one of the only actual in class exams, and i get nearly a perfect score. i knew the material, i just had other struggles with getting the papers done.
he used my struggle with the rest of the class as the only proof he needed to get me expelled. i had to finish my schooling at an alternative school, which was way way better anyway and honestly wasn’t a setbacm in the end. it sure set the tone for my relation with authority though.

oh it’s very true! generally when a bullet enters the body the damage it does spreads out like a cone from entrance to exit as more displaced material is accelerated and the shockwave travels outward. that’s why the exit wound is generally many times larger than the entrance wound. a large enough round at a high enough velocity will start taking chunks out of people. that’s why many were concerned the m16 wouldn’t have enough stopping power when it was first being brought to the battlefield, it used a smaller round than the ak-47. it’s not about the size of the bullet, it’s about the amount of energy it can impart into the target. a heavier, wider round will create a much larger wound channel. the difference in damage done is much greater than the difference in the size of the bullet.
there are also a variety of specific types of bullets that can affect the wound created and the damage done internally. for example, in smaller, slower rounds that might struggle to create this expanding wound channel effect, they might use hollow point bullets. bullets that are made to expand and/or break apart after impact. creating a larger wound and transferring the energy of the round into the target’s organs better.
generally, you can expect that anyone using guns designed to kill humans to be able to damage an area at least 4 times the size of the bullet with every shot. often more, sometimes less. so when you think about getting shot and whether it will hit your internal organs imagine the bullets are more like softballs. because that’s the size of the exit wound they’ll create. that is why i say it’s generally unlikely that you won’t fall when shot with intent to kill. i do specifically man using a weapon of war, not a .22 backpack rifle. honestly, people get shot with small caliber handguns often enough. they probably usually don’t need to fall over. might feel like it though. i know i tend to sit down when I’m hurt badly enough.

hmmm, like they don’t do a Hollywood fall, but they do often just drop. sack of potatoes style. there’s a lot of stuff in you that could make you stop standing if it got shot. it’s not guaranteed, but depending on caliber, it can be quite likely that they will fall. just straight down or in the direction of their existing momentum usually.
I would like it to come out with the same number of win conditions that the previous ones had. diplomacy was a base feature in at least the last 2 games before it. it wasn’t a dlc feature before. they removed it this time, then added it back as dlc. they do shit like that every time.
that’s a weird thing to say about a game that came out without diplomacy or diplomatic victories. but ign has a long history of overating games from waelthy companies.
edit: but also, the way that ign feels the need to praise it for being fully featured at launch when it was still missing a base mechanic really helps my point. they always do this. this may actually be the least bad one they’ve ever done. that’s just a low bar. like the 4th least bad release.

I’m not going to give this company ground to legitimize their greed because the rest of the industry shot past them in shittyness. this was one of the first series to explicitly be scummy with dlc. they helped create the modern landscape of battle passes and gacha bullshit. they were once some of the worst out there…

hell, Geralt spends damn near a quarter of the series straight up disarmed. one of the books is basically a legal drama about him trying to not go to jail after getting his sword stolen. don’t think he has his sword for about 99% of that one.
“gotta get my fuckin sword back” is a very common plot point throughout that series. not just for Geralt. ciri spends some time sword chasing too. i don’t hate it.
