Clothing!
Lots of clothes only last a couple of years then they break apart, holes appears, etc…
We have a local collective that fixes clothes and its helped keep them alive for 10+ years now. But jeens, shirts, ect that are newer seem to be worse somehow. They don’t last nearly as long.

I got mine from a Canadian reseller, shipped to the us that doesn’t have the Sim + I own. If I would have went with the official insurance way, it would have cost 2x ish AND the machine itself can magically last for 10 years since it’s a Canadian model…and all the parts are the same.
GL! Hope you have a great time.
Check out https://www.wesnoth.org/ and https://supertuxkart.net/Main_Page :D

I have a SNES/NES combo. Playing through super Mario world and marble madness. Its been fun.
Usually git or development.

Pico 8 is pretty fun if you like pixel art. Plus lots of examples.

Phones as well. Each increase in the nand/chips makes phones and ANY consumer electronics that use it much more expensive.
It doesnt help when most devices that we buy are not designed to be repaired.

Yeah forms and very basic HTML its good. Anything complex and you have to take over. Great at saving time, like an intern. But a bit worse in that the intern will typically get better and the ai hasn’t really.

Yep interesting times!
It always makes me think of: https://collapseos.org/why.html
I dont personally think we are anywhere close to the collapse the author states, but its a step. If you cant get replacement parts (or they just get too expensive for the average joe) you have to make due with what you got.

Man RAM/DH is going through the roof. Going to be a fun time with all the tarrifs too in the US.

Lets see how far it goes if AI starts failing…or even if another company can produce faster than they can.

No joke I wonder how many of us nerds are on linux/lemmy.

There’s a sci-fi book called “rats bats and vats” that has an interesting dystopia. There are “shareholders” that own everything and multiple races of slave cast people (vats). I thought it was a fun book but it also went into the dynamics of one class literally owning all assets except dept, which was owned by the lower slave classes.
The ending is pretty good ;)

Don’t be a jerk and you will be fine.
We are all mostly human here. Just remember that. Hope you have a great time on the fediverse!

Currently unavailable.
Well that didnt last long at all!

Our devices don’t change all that much to be honest. And the battery degregation is the only real reason to get a new phone. Some companies are even making it easy again to fix phones again.
Plus people can’t afford 1000$ phones full stop.
You can do the same with cron btw depending on the OS(?). At least on debian systems. I think its @poweroff or @reboot if I recall correctly.
Yeah every couple of years, you just unscrew and clean. Its pretty easy.
