If the developers don’t want players to ram each other, that rule should be enforced by the game itself. Either don’t have realistic collisions between players, or prevent cars from going offroad after a collision, or instantly take away the offender’s money or points.

Fighting game tournaments usually allow everything that’s possible in the game engine, but there are exceptions like intentionally crashing the game.

I like chess, but I can’t think that fast. At that speed, I can only do [email protected] : push pawns, fork things with knights, always take en passant, and try not to blunder away the queen.

Look, I come from fighting games and not racing games, so this actually looks OK to me. The goal is to win the race by hook or crook, and you are expected to use every means at your disposal to win. It’s dirty play, but it isn’t against the rules, and you should expect all of your serious opponents to ram you in this situation.

It’s like snaking in Mario Kart DS. It’s a weird counter-intuitive mechanic that makes you go faster by powersliding constantly, even on straightaways. If you’re playing without snaking, you’re not really playing Mario Kart DS.

As for the argument that a vote for a third party is a vote for the bad guy, I’m not so sure. I voted against Biden in the primaries because we can do better. But when tens of millions of people are going to vote to install a dictator, the rest of us need to be united behind one candidate long enough to defeat them. Someday, third parties will be viable, but not this year.

This is true. There are two kinds of people who would vote orange. There are those too dumb to understand that he’d make himself dictator, and consequently too dumb to use the Fediverse. Then, there are those smart enough to understand those things and evil enough to want a dictatorship, and they’re mostly on those tankie/fascist instances everyone else defederated. Neither of those groups will ever see this thread.

The fascists want to convince you that your vote doesn’t matter. Defy the fascists and vote. Besides, the state and local races make more of a difference anyway, so at least show up for those.

For just 32kB (plus the size of a Game Boy emulator), you can play the amazing Tetris Rosy Retrospection. It’s a romhack of the Game Boy Tetris that adds modern Tetris controls, handling, and features to make it feel much better to play without increasing the file size. I’m aware of the color version of this hack, but it doubles the file size to 64kB, so I’m only considering the regular Tetris Rosy Retrospection this time. Byte-for-byte, I can’t find a better game to sink dozens of hours into.

Weighing in at 4.0MB, I present to you the SNES roguelike Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer (or Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Fuurai no Shiren).

The original console “RPG you can play 1000 times”. It’s tough but fair. It stops just short of permadeath; dying sends you back to the start at level 1 with nothing, but you keep your side quest progress and any gear you had the foresight to send back to town before you died. Watch someone stream this sometime. It’s turn-based, but the tension is like nothing else I’ve ever played.

Tekken? Nah. It’s a four button game, and you only need to map the shoulder buttons if your character has a good move with a weird button combination like Square+Circle. Street Fighter Alpha 3 really needs all 6 buttons, though.

You might want to search for a RetroAchievements collection of PlayStation Portable games.

• Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max are in top shape on the PSP with extra characters and decent single player content.

• Rock Band Unplugged is a stealth sequel to Frequency and Amplitude, worth a try for juggling a whole band’s worth of instruments.

• I also had a lot of fun with Half-Minute Hero, Lumines, Everybody’s Golf Portable 2/Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2, and the racing games DdCno1 mentioned.

• And that’s not even getting into the excellent options for emulated games, both retail and homebrew.

• RetroAcheivements PSP games sorted by number of players is a good way to see the most popular games.

Check each game’s entry on PCGamingWiki. They’re a good resource for finding what it takes to get old games running well on modern PCs. A lot of times, the answer is either “buy it on Steam and use a community-made patch” or “buy it on GOG”.

Generally good news here, but I’m not holding my breath. Sega’s remakes are still hit-and-miss, but they all have a chance to be good. We don’t know if Hideki Naganuma is involved with the new Jet Set Radio.

Chocolatey, a command line driven package installer for Windows that works like apt-get for Linux. Replaces thousands of bloated installers with simple commands. My first step with an updated Windows install is to install Chocolatey, open command prompt, and do something like choco install firefox notepadplusplus gimp zoom windirstat winrar to install them all silently.
