Perhaps you can steel it?
Perhaps you can steel it?
I use atomic for systems that I want to work, full stop, no matter what.
I use traditional for systems and VMs that I want to tinker with. These may be rendered into an atomic distro at some point, if desired or necessary. But I honestly haven’t felt the need to do that yet.
It’s just about picking the appropriate baseline os type for what you want to do on the machine in question. Much like one would pick debian or fedora or rhel or suse-based distros for various technical and esoteric reasons.
As a software engineer who was introduced to the field in high school, over two decades ago: it’s real. People are doing it. I’ve met people doing this at my job, and directed focused scorn at them. You know the idiom of “knowing just enough to be dangerous”? Like, you’re learning C and you’re just playing around and you discover pointers, and you’re like “oh this is interesting”, but you haven’t learned or internalized that it is real easy to Fuck Things Up if you don’t use them very carefully (there’s a ton of stuff like this)? LLM codegen being used by novices is an absolute shitshow because the codegen will often create nonsense, broken, logically flawed, or deprecated code, and the novice user is just going to accept it at face value instead of understanding that it’s subtly wrong.
You’re willing to pay $none to have hardware ML support for local training and inference?
Well, I’ll just say that you’re gonna get what you pay for.
lol yeah, the lemmy userbase is NOT an accurate sample of the technical aptitude of the general population 😂
You can get a Coral TPU for 40 bucks or so.
You can get an AMD APU with a NN-inference-optimized tile for under 200.
Training can be done with any relatively modern GPU, with varying efficiency and capacity depending on how much you want to spend.
What price point are you trying to hit?

Republicans? Ashamed?
I see you haven’t met many Republicans.
Yep.
Also, I want to point out that it was actually worse and weirded than I had remembered: i don’t think they’re married, but they’ve had two kids together, and one of them was intentional.
Yep.
Wow.
Edit: hahahahahaha fucking hell they got married in the 90s too
Yep.
And that was my reaction when I discovered that too
I honestly expect our ruling regime to attack and punish them for this. I’m not exaggerating.
Coming soon: a screwdriver and a soldering iron
Why does a mouse own a dog? And how come the mouse is also friends with another dog? What’s going on there?
The United States operates on the principle of three co-equal branches of government, which check and balance each others power.
But what’s the root cause of your laziness?
I’m not being snarky - it’s a serious question. For myself, I’ve found that digging down to figure out where some of my behavioral traits are rooted is an extremely valuable and informative exercise.
I’m betting the PRC invades Taiwan inside of a year or two, and that orange boy does fucking nothing because “they didn’t pay enough”.
💎 🙌
Yeah… more like a decade at least, if we’re being honest. Even if we do a U-turn in 4 years (which, frankly, I doubt, because I’m not convinced we’ll even have elections, much less meaningful ones, very much less free and fair ones).
Also, I see you, fellow Bostonian 😉
