Yeah it was pretty nifty in lots of ways. Loads of emulators, of course, and doing stuff like compiling apps directly on the device itself was neat.

Frustrating in lots of other ways too, though. I don’t think the Pyra ever really got off the ground, unfortunately.

This was always an impressive emulator - it was originally made for the Open Pandora (an ARM-based mini-computer not much bigger than a DS). It’s always been free for that - it’s just, you know, you’d have to own an Open Pandora (I do!)

Informing a human that their work has already been done for them by a bot is oddly appropriate for this post.

Replayed Uncharted 4 for the millionth time. Now on The Lost Legacy. Not enjoying it as much (it’s harder, for one thing). Interesting to see the developments that would go into The Last of Us 2 though (e.g. experiments with more open-world levels, and the attempt to redeem a character that’s previously been portrayed as a villain).

I think it’s difficult to know where we really are in the release cycle for this console, as it’s been disrupted so much by initial unavailability and COVID. Normally, we’d be due a Pro version this year, but it could be this year, it could be next year, it could be never.

Last generation I was happy with a standard PS4 until I played Control, and could see that it was struggling. I’m not sure there’s any PS5 games that are known to stress the hardware, and would do anything with the extra resources.

I’d buy one now if I were you. Worse case scenario: you’ll want to trade it in for an upgrade in a year or two.

Use the pi or whatever little computer that’s presumably hosting the pi-hole software to also be a DHCP server (and turn off the DHCP server on ISP’s router). It can then advertise itself as the DNS server.

It might have been https://sub.rehab that was mentioned (you can migrate using their Settings page apparently). Their FAQ also mentions alternative sites (mostly just big static lists by the look of it).

Or it could have been an app - Voyager for instance will take a big list of your subscriptions as a MultiReddit and sub you to Communities with the same name.

Speaking of bots that should have some checks built in, ha.

Voyager was set up to test the app, but that doesn’t mean other clients can’t use it.

Enterprise is full of random test communities that have many been populated by bots. I don’t understand how something like https://enterprise.lemmy.ml/c/mels_test (to pick a random one) isn’t useful for what you’re trying to do.

I think https://enterprise.lemmy.ml is specifically for testing. It’s not typically federated with other instances, so it won’t be a problem if your bot goes crazy again.

An interesting thing about Lemmy is that if you delete your comment, it also nukes every comment underneath it. So if you say something, and then people are giving you a hard time about it, and then you go out for a walk and are still annoyed about it, you can self-destruct and take them with you (this isn’t based on a true story of course, but if it was, I’d say it’s terrible in that it discourages engagement and deletes someone else’s actually-correct info, but it’s a good way to get over it all)

For me, being stuck at ‘Subscribe Pending’ does seem to happen for KBIN mags, but it isn’t exclusive to them. Whenever it happens, it does the mad thing of bringing everything though up to the point I tried to subscribe, but nothing after.

To fix it, you can often - but not always - go to the source Mag or Community, and find a semi-recent post from after you subscribed, and copy the absolute link (e.g. https://kbin.social/m/science/t/383186/Visualizing-the-mysterious-dance-Quantum-entanglement-of-photons-captured-in), then go to your instance and post that in the Search field. And then the change the thing your searching for from ‘Communities’ to ‘Posts’, and then wait a bit, and then click the link if it shows up.

This tends to force through the change past ‘Pending’, and from then things will start turning up.

I have Feelings about certain instances (too unreliable, too much interference, too little / too much moderation on certain specialised instances) so that helps me choose. It’s not something you necessarily get right first try.

The data could be better if I used the API or added the information from lemmyverse.net on the total subscriber counts but I spent a lot of time on this as is and don’t know how to use the API.

Your approach may have ended up being for the best. lemmyverse.net can’t index lemmy.world (broken DB => broken API => “well, we didn’t want to be part of the fediverse anyway”), and if you’d tried to use their API yourself, it might have totalled your project the same way it did for lemmyverse.
