34·2 months agoThis depends, if your image contains a lot of flat colours (like a screenshot of a website) then PNG can actually give you smaller file sizes than lossless webp. But for most images (especially ones with compression artefacts) lossless webp gives smaller sizes.

18·2 months agoVector layers allow you to create a shape and set its fill and stroke properties. You can then change the shape path, swap out different color settings, and transform the layer non-destructively, without losing any sharpness!
What is this, potential for a circle tool? In GNU IMP??? Someone tell the devil to turn the heating up, for hell must be freezing over.

Linux@programming.dev•Fedora 43 Change Proposal: X11Libre (system-wide)English
10·5 months agoThey’ve apparently been involved in Fedora since at least 2007 and the list of packages they maintain includes QT, so sure this isn’t some rando. Still, I doubt the backing of a low level contributor to the project will mean this proposal goes anywhere, especially the idea of replacing X11 outright when downstream packages like KDE (ironic) have indicated they won’t support it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix is cookedEnglish
481·5 months agoNow you’re just moving the goal posts. You claimed the article was AI generated and assumed it was talking about a separate entity also called Matrix, when neither of those things are true. I also didn’t ‘just quote something’, I quoted the above article.
But fine:

Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix is cookedEnglish
461·5 months agoThe article shortens venture capital to VC. It also didn’t confuse the Matrix Foundation with a VC firm of the same name, it’s talking about Element (formerly Riot). Like, the article says this in pretty simple English, I’m genuinely confused how you could’ve missed it:
In roughly the beginning, there was two organizations that came out of the project: The Matrix Foundation and New Vector Ltd / Riot / Element. The idea was for New Vector Ltd to carry out the necessary work and bring in the necessary funding for the Matrix Foundation to thrive. Or well, so I’ve been told.
They had multiple funding rounds lead by the likes of status.im, Automattic, the AI and Web3 company protocol labs and others; You get the gist, lots of VC and similar funding also a questionable amount of “Web3” and
bullshit generationAI. Element was then tasked with using that to build the software that would power Matrix.

Technology@beehaw.org•The fediverse promises social media without Big Tech – if it can avoid familiar pitfallsEnglish
27·7 months agoThough this content could flourish in pockets of the fediverse, the scary scenario of prevalent child sexual abuse material is not the case. There are many moderation tools, including shared blocklists, that prevent it. However, the idea that the fediverse is full of harmful content was used by Elon Musk to justify his anti-competitive decision to block links from X to Mastodon.
Didn’t he unban someone who posted one of the worst CSAM videos known?

Not really, Chrome has an overwhelming dominance on desktop despite not being preinstalled on any desktop operating system.
