Reminds me of a program in Homestuck. It’s code that iterates until the author/universe dies, then executes some unknown code. The coding language is ~ath, or TilDeath.

You need empathy to moderate. What other reason is there to do it? You want to make the community a better place by keeping things civil and on-topic. You also need to be able to level with people about their criticisms and concerns.

I had no idea I even relied on them until they were down. My favorite podcast hosts through them and I had to find a workaround.

QWERPline and Welcome to Nightvale. Both of them are comedy faux local radio broadcasts on completely different ends of the spectrum.

Individual samples and UV lights, though often there was a rock where multiple people would lick it. People probably don’t get sick from that often.

Geology degree here - you identify some rocks by licking them. Licking most rocks will give you no information. But in a final, honestly, nobody would bat an eye if you licked all of them, just in case.

Just like anything else, this kind of disaster is very unlikely and is sensationalized when they happen. It’s like being worried you’ll be hit by a meteorite.

That’s awful :( I genuinely can’t imagine how painful that is.

I’m very aware of how lucky I’ve been, and that it’s only a matter of time before that changes. My grandpa is losing his memory, and I’m going out to visit soon. I tell myself “Someday in the near future, I’ll wish I could come back to today.”

I’ve never had a close family member or friend die. I have siblings, they have families. Both my grandparents on one side are alive, the other two died when I was an infant. I have dozens of cousins that are all in good health. Closest thing was my spouse’s grandpa. I’ve been phenominally lucky.

Sure, but for every story about a selkie that wants to drag you underwater and drown you, there are several more about gnomes that want to hide your shoes or fairy people that would trap you in a 100-year party.

At the same time, old folk tales portray these creatures as wild and powerful. Generally not malevolent (certainly not godly), but not something you should mess with.

But I agree it’s the new spooky supernatural go-to. Goblincore is the new zeitgeist and I’m here for it!

Sure, but wasps made a nest right by our front door, and have the audacity to sting me when I simply walked outside. Maybe not assholes on purpose, but they deserved what they got.
