I was under the impression you could still do a cache:url style search, but it seems impossible.

They’re caching them, they’re just not sharing that with the public anymore. I know it has a cache because the Google result shows a bunch of text from the page that no longer exists. That “preview” text is pulled from a cache if the “new” page is resulting in a 404. I was hoping there some way for users to still access it, even if esoterically, but even those options seem unavailable.

Having known some people in elder care, the reality is that some old people are nasty, brutish, mean, racist, misogynist, creepy, violent, you fucking name it, there’s some old person you’re going to have to take care of who matches that horrible personality. You’re paid the same whether you’re helping someone you like or someone who is rude and assaults you every time you enter the room.

I agree with you, elder care should still exist, but I can see why some people get tired of taking care of terrible old people who were likely terrible people all their lives and who are just allowed abuse you. Why are they allowed to abuse you? Because most people who do elder care and underpaid, overworked, and don’t have a lot of other options that pay nearly as well. Basically you’re accepting middling but better than fast-food pay to have abuse dumped on you. I can see how someone feels like its a karmic freebie because there’s no responsibility in any of it, generally management won’t do anything about “problem elders.” Get to be a fucking asshole your whole life and then get to be a fucking asshole to the person wiping your ass before you die.

I have a similar story from another friend who ended up at a mental health hospital in a violent youth ward. He was underpaid, overworked, and responsible for about 30 violent and dangerous kids with unstable mental health issues that made them difficult to approach. If he was busy helping one kid take their meds, and another kid on the ward was in the same moment trying to take their own life and succeeded, he would be the one responsible. He was not being paid enough or had enough support to justify taking full responsibility for things that are outside his control when he cannot magically manage 30 dangerous cases at once. He left the job after two months of assaults and scares. I don’t blame him, and he doesn’t blame himself, and we also understand that those 30 cases deserve better care than they’re getting but it’s not his responsibility as an individual to make up for the shortcomings of government funding for this.

Same with people who work elder care. It’s not their individual responsibility to make up for the fact that these companies don’t give a damn about the people they’re caring for, and each elder is just an income stream in a database. The number of people I know in elder care who now have permanent back problems because they’re being expected to lift 300lb old people off their beds and they’re not being given proper equipment for it is too damn high. These people do not deserve to have their bodies broken and paid pennies on the dollar to be abused by the elders in their care, not given the right tools to do the job, with a prevailing attitude of “they’re just old people, how bad can they hurt you really?” Pretty fucking bad, shockingly.

Elder care needs to exist. Does it need to exist as it exists now in the USA? Abso-fucking-lutely not.

Are you at all familiar with Charlie Brooker’s (creator of Black Mirror) comedy work? Black Mirror is great, but I honestly think he’s a better comedy writer.

Cunk herself started as a bit character, a “man on the street” interview on Brooker’s old comedy news show his Weekly Wipe/Newswipe. I kind of miss her male compatriot, Barry Shitpeas, but I suspect his last name made it harder to build a show around him.

The dialogue of Daniel Kaluuya at the end of Fifteen Million Merits, where he’s speaking from his fancy new apartment to his new video platform, is basically Daniel doing an impression of Charlie Brooker on Newswipe. It completely changes the final scene if you’re familiar with Brooker’s own comedy, it’s a nice piece of self-critique.

Also, he put John Hannah (who I still also love in The Mummy) in my good books with his send-up of tough police procedural shows with A Touch of Cloth the name of which is a reference to not being able to hold in your shit, and its crowning and touching the cloth of your underwear. Lot’s of stupid cloth-related puns for funs.

We’re finally getting a wrap-up to Final Space at least in graphic novel form!

The best thing about Smiling Friends is that, despite how dark the humor can get, the show generally has a positive attitude and positive messages about humanity, friendships, and kindness.

For outwardly seeming like its just random shock shlock humor, Smiling Friends really does have depth and heart to it.

I was pretty bummed when it got canceled because it really got me through some hard times. What’s there holds up beautifully, however.

It starts off as a Mr. Rogers type vehicle that quickly veers off into strangeness. Joes propensity to talk to the camera like Mr. Rogers, and his propensity to explain human emotions by relating them to scientific ideas like the formation of rocks made this show weirdly comforting for me. It’s also just plain goofy.

It also includes Conner O’Malley in the cast and as one of the writers. O’Malley is like if BBC documentarian Adam Curtis instead made David Lynch-esque experimental comedy. He was on a few episodes of Detroiters with Tim Robinson and is in a handful of I Think You Should Leave sketches (in my opinion, most notably in “Honk if you’re horny”). For being such a strange guy, he wrote some of the most heartfelt stuff in Joe Pera.

Joes voice is extremely calming to me, and his timing and delivery genuinely kill me. I’ve had very few comedians that had me crying over something genuinely sweet and sad and then be able to make laugh a few moments later.

I hear people describe shows like Ted Lasso as “kind television” and I think Joe Pera Talks With You fits in that same niche. It’s very loving and doesn’t seem to really put anyone down and shows off a quiet, beautiful Michigan community. Despite not being from Marquette, originally, Joe has a lot of love for the area, it’s clear.

Exactly. I don’t personally have kids so I also feel especially out of line telling someone else how to raise theirs. Parenting isn’t easy, and there’s tough questions like “How do I get my child to learn good habits around screen time so they don’t end up addicted to devices built for addiction?” Honestly, I personally don’t know a better way other than loosely (not strictly) limiting screen time enough so that they naturally learn good habits over time, and that unfortunately means you need to monitor screen time. As an adult I noticed a lot of my good habits were things my parents instilled in me in my youth that I hadn’t really thought about, like drinking a lot of water, for one. They didn’t prevent me from drinking soda at all, but they limited my intake at home and made sure when I was home I was drinking lots of water and not just juice or soda, they didn’t try to control me outside of the house when I was making my own decisions… and now I drink water a lot because it just feels normal. It’s a habit they got me into, and because it became a habit I’m left with a good habit in my adulthood. I don’t see how it would be any different in getting a kid to respect screen time as an adult.

God… I wish my parents had done more to monitor my screen time because I’m bad at this shit.

1. The media is talking about this announcement more than the embezzlement, so he has used his announcement successfully.

2. Parkinson’s has a dementia element that he is trying to use as an excuse for why his “judgment lapsed.” This is literally on its face bullshit simply because he can sit there and talk about it. If the dementia was that advanced, he would not be this coherent. He should have been torn to shreds in this hearing over exactly this.

3. The worst people literally have zero scruples, so they feel no remorse hiding behind something like Parksinson’s to justify and excuse their shitty behavior as somehow justified or not worth prosecuting. Always excuses, never able to take responsibility for anything at all ever. Trump really is their Id realized.

Personal opinion, I don’t understand why more parents haven’t moved to use Pi-Holes for content blocking. Since you can tailor your own blocklists, it’s not impossible to do, and I’m pretty sure some enterprising folks have already made a Pi-Hole block list for porn and various adult websites.

Further, if your child figures out how to bypass the block, they’re learning valuable skills, if nothing else.
