LMAO. As much as restrictions of this kind suck, at least DNS makes more sense than IP without any transparency.
It really does sound like whoever came up with the IP solution had no idea of what the hell they were talking about.

I mean, you shouldn’t stay on here if you don’t like it, that goes without saying, but I think all in all the benefits outweight the few very annoying issues that this platform has. For instance, I think that the smaller number of people tend to mean that if you leave a comment somewhere you are likely to find someone to chat with and discuss whatever it is that you brought up in your comment.
Often times on Reddit there are so many comments that you either blow up getting over 20 replies or get forgotten and ignored. No inbetweens.
Do they? I think most of Lemmy still prefers online freedom, it should be one of the reasons that brought us here. Plus, the people you are gonna meet even by changing instance are going to be more or less the same. The number of instances you are barred from by staying on .world is pretty small.
One can hope…
You know, in a way I am glad that we managed to implement such a piss poor implementation of a PiRaCy ShIeLd. They are going to have to roll back or disable this piece of crap in a matter of days and that will hopefully be the end of these silly internet restrictions for good.
Had the implementation not sucked ass this bad, we would have needed to wait for some EU infringiment procedure or ECJ order to shut it down. Instead, this way it’s gonna end way more quickly.
I mainly write JS and not having a backtick on my keyboard annoys the fuck out of me. Other than that the Italian keyboard is alright, never had any other problems with it.
Agreed. In Italy we’ve had those for some years now in big stores, and while they haven’t replaced traditional checkouts and likely never will, they provide a nice and fast way out, especially for people who bought few items.
Love to read some nuance on the topic. As much as we all repeat to ourselves to “remember the human”, it still doesn’t happen as often as it should.
Always good to remember that very few people are naturally and constantly toxic, most people are just normal folks and everyone has bad days.
To add to the approved reply:
The GDPR has some other requirements to it, such as an EU-based representative being necessary for operating in the EU, allowing users to request data updates, and getting consent for data collected
You could make the argument that the mall Santas aren’t authorized representatives of real Santa, as they are hired by malls with no supervision from the North Pole administration. Thankfully this doesn’t matter, because Santa himself is a resident of Finland, an EU country, which is also where his business is located. Chistmas is saved, everyone.
Axios for requests - easier than working with the Fetch API in some cases
May I ask what cases? I used to use Axios on Node, before they implemented the fetch API over there but I haven’t touched it since. And defintiely never used it on the client. Could you make an example of some case where it’d be easier to work with Axios than with fetch?
Thanks for sharing! I’m also struggling with the yt popup, I’ll check that out.
I think that’s the first Italian plan I’ve ever seen in years without unlimited SMS lol. Not that it makes any difference, no one uses it anyway.
What provider is that? The yellow makes me think of Fastweb. Weird. I’m using ho. and I’ve had unlimited SMS for years now.
Anyway, SMS is a trash and outdated technology and that’s the only reason why it’s not used. Have you ever reached your monthly cap for SMS any time after 2010?
your fascist fucking grandpa is literally Mussolini
That’s not Meloni, I think you might be confusing her with Alessandra Mussolini. Even then, I don’t think it’s fair to hold people accountable for the actions of their ancestors, even when said ancestors are dictators such as “literally Mussolini”.
and it’s one of his old colonies
If anything what made the country so destabilized, ultimately leading to Gaddafi’s rise, was the “liberation” (read as neocolonialism) brought by the British. A similar fate happened to all the other former Italian colonies such as Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea.
I’m all for the right of self determination of people and decolonization was a traumatic process for many African countries (think of French Algeria for one), but it’s probably not a coincidence that all of those territories are now failed or war torn states. A smoother and more democratic process after WW2 might probably have helped the regions, but it’s not fair to blame Italy for it’s lack.
Ahaha thanks but I can’t take any merit for the Fediseer, that’s @[email protected]’s baby. It also has a nice GUI that - despite not being the “best motherfucking website” - is pretty cool to look at.
Totally agreed on that, it’s actually a feature I’m working on adding to the UI fork I’m going to use for my instance.
It uses the admin-defined Fediseers preferences of an instance and hides content from users according to them.
Interesting idea. I’m currently working on a Lemmy-ui fork for my instance and including a feature of this kind in the frontend would be kinda nice.
I’ll bookmark this and come back if I ever get to it.
Flip side: imagine being a new Lemmy user, maybe coming from the algorithmically curated experience of Reddit, and having to learn what instance blocking is, how to do it and who to block. It would be quite overwhelming.
I’m all for user freedom but some users don’t want freedom. They want something that works without having to spend 15 minutes configuring it.
Oof. Yeah maybe. I did play Skyrim on release, on a bloody PS3 no less. Pure pain.
Hopefully it doesn’t take them that long.
Thanks for sharing. The default launcher on my phone is terrible and I hate having to move to different layouts every time I switch phones (which only happens every 5+ years, but is still annoying) so I have been using Nova for many years.
Just turned off its internet access on both data and wifi, let’s see if it complains about it.
As a note: I can see that it only transfered a few hundred kilobytes in the past month, which isn’t a lot, but it’s still more than zero.
