I worked at intel for a while. It deserves to be destroyed. But I live in an area with a lot of well off intel employees. It could tank my house value among other major impacts to the community. Like I am sure he would kill the matching donation stuff which would be a significant reduction of the amount of money non profits get in this area. So I hope the destruction is slow enough for other chip companies in the area to absord some of the workers.

I would think there is a priority order in his mind. Decentralized fact checking, centralized fact checking, no fact checking. His actions fit well with that. Also, I believe zuck wasn’t using only one asset to do the checking. He was using multiple fact checking sources. So it was kinda decentralized. I would expect this guy would rather see the user choose the fact checking source for content they see.

How will AI learn without human posted questions and answers. Docs for most software are abysmal. In a few years, people dependent on AI to code will be in real trouble with anything new.

A lot of answers seem to skip over that people wouldn’t know if the repeat is forever. So many people might try to figure out how to make it stop. Others might not want it to stop… that could get interesting.

While I agree about most of your gripes. I don’t think requiring an account to contribute is unreasonable. I can underdtand not wanting to create an account and give them personal info and such. But if that is your stance, stop using them entirely. Giving them code is even worse.

So in response to cops stereotyping minorities, let’s sterotype all cops? Then let’s take that to the extreme and disrepect a dead person you know nothing about, for laughs.
Even If you knew for a fact that the person in that cofin was a bad cop, does thier family deserve this image being passed around like this. No. One could understand if your motive was to help effect change, and crossing this line would help. But you are doing it for laughs and internet points. There is nothing good about that.

I do know the feel. I was young once (seems a long long time ago). Reinventing the wheel was fun and challenging. I loved creating libraries. I didn’t actually know at the time that there were already existing libraries I could just use, this was the 90s. But it is hard to keep track of what library code exists in a project if you didn’t write it. Maybe assign them to review the library code and document it or something. Then they will know what it is at least.

Human nature. Itcwas necessary to beat out the other species, but it didn’t evolve with society. Many of the things other people have mentioned are really just unevolved human nature. Greed, selfishness, racism, crime.

Lol, the lead can’t spec the style, he just reviews the code and asks for changes. Sometimes it’s just that we already have a method that does a similar thing, so we should use it. Of course an AI wouldn’t know about that unless you gave it access to your code. And given how speed first AI companies are, I would never trust that data with them. But other times it’s just the leads personal preference.

It’s been years… maybe we don’t need the costco size for the love of pete.

In my jobs there have slways been certain stule requirements to the code. AI doesn’t take those into account. So I would have to rework the code anyway. And of course there are the local libraries it know nothing about.

Lol, enshitification should at least take a few months… I hope.

In my professional experience, AI seems to be just a faster way to generate an algorithm that is really hard to debug. Though I am dev-ops/sre so I am not as deep in it as the devs.

See now, I would prefer AI in my toaster. It should be able to learn to adjust the cook time to what I want no matter what type of bread I put in it. Though is that realky AI? It could be. Same with my fridge. Learn what gets used and what doesn’t. Then give my wife the numbers on that damn clear box of salad she buys at costco everytime, which take up a ton of space and always goes bad before she eats even 5% of it. These would be practical benefits to the crap that is day to day life. And far more impactful then search results I can’t trust.

Yeah, I know all about it. I live near portland, we are generally very inclusive. My kid was explaining just some of the many categories to me the other day. It’s a lot for an old brain to adjust to. And I am terrible at remembering peoples names. I may never be able to keep the categories connected to the people. Lol.

Referring to someone as queer. When I grew up that was a major insult. You just didn’t use that word, like the n word. You used others like homosexual and such. But now it is mainstream and ok to use in the right way. But it still feels offensive in my head.

I was thinking earlier… maybe all the lessons in the saturday morning cartoons were really intended to keep the masses from fighting back. I mean, no, the good guys don’t always win in the end. And cheating sure as hell does payoff. They want the masses to take the high road. While they tunnel through anything in thier way.

It’s the last part where we disagree. I think that pushing efforts that make people feel like they did thier part makes them complacent to pushing against industry or others. In some cases the individual effort touted is something that few people will end up doing because of how inconvenient it is. So they will feel they can’t demand better of industry and others. And in the case of this leaves stuff, it is something that excuses inaction, so people will feel like they did their part so the result isn’t thier fault, and thus not thier problem anymore. And of course everyone loves a post supporting inaction because it makes them feel better about themsleves for not getting around to something they thought they should do. That makes it very popular. As such it drowns out messages about the larger causes and solutions.
