Depends what you use and how you use it. With how I use my computer, I have issues on Windows that require terminal input to solve and are more confusing than many of the Linux issues I face, but the way I use Linux also requires terminal. Some applications just work better or only on terminal whether you’re on Windows or Linux and some debugging steps will inevitably take you down the dark road of decade old menus and terminal commands.
Day to day basic tasks though? It shouldn’t need any special knowledge, provided that you don’t follow the wrong online tutorials like I did when starting out. For example, Firefox was out of date so I looked up how to update Firefox. The package manager did not have a new version and I didn’t think to manually go into settings and refresh the repository (stores auto update, right? Well, no actually…). Basically I ended up trying to install via a .deb package from their website… it didn’t work and I felt Linux was dumb. What I should have done was update my OS and package manager first or simply sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
(yes this is terminal, sorry). My point is, sometimes you have to realise the question you are asking is flawed and not the system.
I actually think the poor branding is part of why Mastodon is hard to spread. Can you picture anyone seriously saying they “tooted” something? Because I can’t.
Oh! Well that’s awesome then, thanks for the correction. I did look it up but ended up on some “top feature” article which barely mentioned any features beyond layer multi select. I should have looked further.
Still no smart objects/non-destructive editing? :(
Instead of gonewild girls promoting their OnlyFans, maybe now they can promote their paid subreddit lol.
I agree with most of your points, but “anti physically and mentally disabled”? Really? Your source describes how they reuploaded unsubtitled lectures for the sake of preservation. This is hardly a villanous move and has nothing to do with “not caring about deaf people”. Let’s keep the arguments honest, you have plenty else to stick them with that’s actually substantial.
You don’t have to… if the project you want to use has a good setup process. Otherwise you’ll be scouring Docker docs, GitHub issues, and StackOverflow for years.
I’ve found them to be pretty clear usually. Half-formed words at start/end I just ignore. Either way, even on Firefox with uBlock and all the rest, audio captchas have always passed me first try even if I think I got it wrong. I don’t like posting about it in-case they tighten it up after it gets more users.
Ah okay, thanks for the insight!
From what I’ve heard the Snapdragon chips aren’t that impressive though?
There was a short period a few years ago after the Quantum update that I would have partially agreed, because Firefox’s renderer was much smoother. But Chrome seems to have caught up, because it’s been much faster every time I test something in it in the yesrs since.
Which is invisible to users, meaning they can ignore it or handwave it with “I haven’t got anything to hide”.
Good luck convincing the government to enact it when they’ve already decided our poor populace just doesn’t have “enough interest” in the idea.
I’ve felt that the popular subreddits were on a decline ever since Reddit was featured in so many YouTube slop videos, but with time the effect of identity loss is becoming increasingly obvious. The crowd on there is not what it used to be. Gone is the desire for accurate information, meaningful comments, sources, and giving credit. Reddit is no longer a niche product but a mainstream one that my parents and “normie” friends know and it reflects in the lower quality content and user participation.
I have a bad habit of jumping into programming without a solid plan which results in lots of rewrites and wasted time. Funnily enough, describing to an AI how I want the code to work forces me to lay out a basic plan and get my thoughts in order which helps me make the final product immensely easier.
This doesn’t require AI, it just gave me an excuse to do it as a solo actor. I should really do it for more problems because I can wrap my head better thinking in human readable terms rather than thinking about what programming method to use.
For me? Recall. I’m ordering an SSD to dual boot Linux off of and ween myself off Windows as much as I can. Probably can’t remove it as long as I want to play games* with friends, but I’d be happy to have my day to day be less awful.
* Before anyone says Proton, Wine, etc, I mean the awful multiplayer rootkits like Valorant.
Oh god, you reminded me. I had a run in with this recently because my parents got new laptops. 1TB hard drive, should be plenty right? NO! My mom had 15GB of files in her home folders and One Drive was whining constantly to pay them for more space.
It was about an hour of debugging to keep the files safe, extract One Drive from the home folder locations because it had dug in like a virus, and then (after 20 online searches and scouring forums) click the specific toggle in the specific menu to disable One Drive so it would use local files.
I paid for a 1TB computer, why are you forcing me to use your shitty online-only limited-space shit show. Fucks sake.
Unfortunately there are very few open review projects and none that people have tried to actually integrate into one of the OSM apps. It makes me rather disappointed as finding businesses and checking reviews is one of the most common uses I have for Google Maps and yet OSM cannot replace it.
