Twitter is defined entirely by what is followed, you can stay completely out of the toxic far right stuff and block those that don’t know where they are. There are still plenty of sub communities there that exist no where else and you can control your feed better than Lemmy and other forum like systems. Twitter overall is declinimg but it’s not the full picture because what is happening doesn’t impact lots of people who use the platform that much.
I noticed today searching that the date search no longer seems to work right. There are some terms that only appeared since 2020 and up until my recent attempts those terms produced no results on DDG when date constrained but now produce terms in articles clearly after that date. I don’t know if this is some personalisation nonsense or always pulling but results if the constraints don’t match or what but its seriously problematic and means I can’t trust the date constraints anymore.
They are a lot more expensive than expected at the moment, once they start selling at the 30$/KWh they were proposed at they will be fantastic but if they stay at their current price LFP is going to be a lot cheaper.
Trustpilot in itself is a very problematic website as well that biases towards positive reviews. Companies can engage there and get reviews removed when the person won’t further engage with the company that has wronged them and get the reviews removed. So if an organisation has bad reviews and its engaged on trustpilot they must be really bad.
The first attempt of many, the tech industry will normalise a subscription model alongside the hardware they just need to find the right justification that doesn’t have universal push back. It worked for games, the trojan horse used was (often token) multiplayer addition and it will work in hardware too once they find the right combination.
It would carry a bit more weight if the UK wasn’t continuing to ship them weapons they were using in this genocide. Infact that is something they should cease immediately.
That doesn’t produce any practical competition however. Some vertical splitting of the search business seems reasonable so we end up with multiple companies doing search out of it.
They just don’t outperform the 7000 series and they are kind of more expensive. I guess you can PBO them and get 15% out of them at similar power consumption but that isn’t great for the price difference.
The law comes in two parts, the actual written bit that says what it is and the enforcement. Most people consider the first part what is necessary and lobby hard for it but really the most important bit in a practical sense is how it gets applied and enforced, without which the law is worthless. In many countries one way to defang laws is simply underfund the legal system or quangos that do the enforcement, another is putting someone in charge at the attornies office who de-prioritises those cases. The law as written isn’t worth the paper/bytes its written on unless there is a plan for enforcement that doesn’t involve every poor person using the rich mans legal system against giant corporations with infinite defence money.
I suspect there are going to be many lawsuits all over the globe about this. The situation is so bad and so expensive Intel has decided to weather all those lawsuits and class actions instead of doing a recall. That suggests to me odds are everything they have made since the 13th Gen is soon for an early tech graveyard.
They are going to get sued for billions and this little stunt isn’t going to change that. Should have implemented proper software testing before you took ever corporate computer in the world, but companies like this always force their developers to rush instead of do the right thing and when it bites them expect that things will carry on as normal. I can’t see many renewals in their future.
Either Intel is extremely incompetent and genuinely has no idea what is causing this problem or it knows full well is doing all it can to drag this out and avoid recalls. This saga has been going on all year now this is getting ridiculous.

Looks like the story of the night is going to be not that Labour gained lots of votes but that Reform has split the Conservative vote and collapsed their vote as a result and its gifted Labour a lot of wins. Lots of tactical voting has led to the Lib Dems gaining a lot of seats too.
Reform has gained enormously, the Greens and Lib Dems less so.
There is nothing seasonal about Covid, we get a wave every time it mutates sufficiently. Initially that was about five waves a year in 2022 but the past year it’s been two to three. The lulls however still have substantial constant infection usually in the region of 1 in 50 to 1 in 100 while the peaks of waves can be 1 in 10. Now the gaps between waves have more people infected than the peaks of infections in 2020 and 2021.
The risk of Long Covid hasn’t changed much, there are still substantial deaths every year. It’s all bad news really, no treatments on the horizon to solve it just declining life expectancy and health the more we catch and spread it.
Linux was in use on some university machines although I lot of them were still running Sun hardware OS. The main distribution I used at the time was Slackware.
When I look at how much Nigel Farage has been platformed in the UK the press helped manufacture the consent for Brexit and the big far right swing that is coming with it. What were quite isolated social media views have become very mainstream and on the TV all the time. Society is now quite open about a lot of far right talking points. Social media is a part of the media landscape but it didn’t make the far right figures popular that was all the traditional presses doing.
Even now they cover and platform Nigel Farage about 100x as much as they do any Green candidate, and yet the Greens hold more MP and council seats. Same with the Lib Dems who are bigger than Reform and yet the press is constantly platforming Reform. Its hard to look at traditional media and see anything but a big swing to the right in the last decade and they have led every step of the way.
I feel like we need a better model. Reddits/Lemmys algorithm makes long conversations impossible and forums make long conversations dominate and this causes a lot of additional disruption. There has to be a design that meets a middle ground that can take over which better represents both the ephemeral nature of news and article discussion while also supporting a number of long standing more detailed discussions which expel low effort content.
It really is quite impressive this issue has been going on all year and Intel isn’t divulging anything of note yet. If they know they sure aren’t telling anyone.
It’s inevitable it’s coming, there is zero question about the acts committed it’s just got to go through the process.
