The cloaca?

Double checked and all of the drives are basic. I’m very confused as to what is different between the disks that readable and the ones that aren’t.

I’ve even tried multiple distros. Same scenario.

It was a good theory, but no luck. I’m perplexed on this one.

With the recent Microsoft garbage, I’m giving Linux another try. I’ve been running a laptop for a while, no issues. My main rig, however can’t read all of my um…?hard drives

A live USB of Mint 21 reads 2 of 5 drives fine. The rest are recognized from GParted, but can’t access them. It looks like NTFS-3G is installed.

I’ve duck duck go’d (which apparently is just Bing) for a solution, but haven’t succeeded. Long term, I can probably pick up another drive, copy, and reformat everything to something Linux friendly. For now, I just want access.

I’m lazy and burned out. I don’t want to use the terminal- which I did try. I just want to make a few clicks and have access to all of my files.

If it matters, the drives (roughly) show up as: 500 gb, 4 TB NTFS (readable) 3, 12, 16 TB unknown (not readable)

Windows says they’re all NTFS.

Is there an easy way to easily mount my drives?

Everyone laughs like this is obvious, but I really struggle to do this. I’m not sure if it’s an ADHD thing, but I just can’t make myself go to bed at night. Extremely tired? Nah, I’d better wait until I hit a second wind. There’s unimportant stuff I’d rather do.

I’m drooling at the thought.

I’m not going to down vote you, but I strongly disagree. Wealthy begets wealth. Poverty digs the hole deeper. This has been the pattern for longer than any of us have been alive.

You don’t have money? Congrats, you need to take out loans for any important purchase, and get terrible interest rates on those loans. You can live in a crappy apartment and drive a crappy car, but those still cost significant money when you have none. Work two or three jobs even. The minimum wage have been raised in 15 years, so what you earn is barely enough to scrape by, assuming you don’t have any health problems.

You come from money? Make investments, but rental properties, get your education without financially crippling you for years. You come from lots of money? Corner the market, influence Congress to pass bills that protect your assets and punish others.

I was trying to find active users since he took over. But the only numbers I can find are numbers provided by Musk, who is a well known liar.

I know Lemmy and Mastodon are niche communities, and that people put up with a lot of garbage from Big Tech, but I have to believe that a lot of users have left Twitter, or least that usage is down. I also assume bots are way up, because Musk wants his numbers to be up regardless of the source (save for people with an opposing opinion).

Hopefully Musk’s shitty little empire crumbles…soon.

We should be so lucky. Plenty of games (and movies) already have ad placements. The NHL recently added fucking banner ads with motion to the boards. I can’t even watch that shit anymore.

Last I read, Microsoft had $80 billion in cash on hand. I’m pretty sure they have the resources to run whatever the fuck they want.

When I was a dev, I once had a PM with no technical skills that decided he would “learn to program to help catch us up”… He did not succeed.

The argument is that corporations do what they want, often not because we want to buy their stuff, but because:

• we don’t have a choice
• they hide what they’re doing through propaganda, lies, obfuscation, etc. so we don’t know about it
• powerful lobbying

Here’s some examples:

• Cigarette companies spent decades convincing people their product was harmless and Even good for you. The oil industry has been covering up climate change the same way.
• Trains are rarely an option in the US, because of subsidies to planes, roads, etc. Car companies pushed hard to actually remove public transportation.
• Don’t like your ISP? Too bad, you probably don’t have another choice
• Look at the PG&E story and how they contaminated drinking water, then just lied about it while people died. You don’t really have a choice about who supplies electricity to your city.

Yes, you could choose to live off of the grid and walk everywhere and grow your own crops, but that’s hardly a choice. And it doesn’t have to be that way. Shitty people at the top of these companies make ungodly money by screwing everyone else over anyway they can, regardless of the cost to humanity. That is the point.

No one needs Plex pass. I don’t even recall what it does. You just send an invitation to their email. It will try to get them to subscribe, but they don’t need to. They just need to accept from you and setup a plain account. Maybe even just login from a Google account.

You may need to walk them through setup/installation on whatever device they use, because Plex tries to put a bunch of things that aren’t your content on the home screen.

Strangely, Plex (remotely) performs differently depending on the device. I’ve never had any issue with a computer or phone (you do have to make a one time $5 payment for the phone app). My horribly slow TV runs Plex surprisingly well. It runs like garbage on my PS4, and sometimes struggles on my Xbox series X.

If the streaming runs choppy for remote users, there are some settings you can adjust. But that’s another story.

Not sure what changes, but it’s scary how much Google controls. Even if we just broke off YouTube from them, that would be a big deal.

Ideally we would split their search engine, YouTube, and chrome each into two competing companies. (Google A, Google B, Chrome A, Chrome B, YouTube A, YouTube B)

Because Google has so much power they can make changes that will break search results, websites, and browsers if you don’t accept changes that are beneficial to them.
