Add to that capitalism which in turn creates ways to and prioritises profit over those same comfort and function (from this idea of having constantly changing “trends” that require buying more things to stay “with it”, to things like not putting pockets in our clothes so that we need to buy bags). The history of fashion is actually a really great and clear way to observe this.
