We had a chat at work about the good old days where ISPs were local startups.
I was with Magma, he was with Primus. We were trying to find the other ones that were out there ! Help us remember Lemmy!
I was a partner at Resudox. I was also one of the original UUCP nodes in the city. I helped Mac Brown start his ISP. I was a client of Fonorola when it became iStar.
While I was at Resudox, we sent out a large amount of emails to Freenet users advertising our services, a spam run that I still apologize for to this day.
Before all of this, I was the owner of The QuBE BBS, supporting UUCP and Fidonet via Welmat (hi Russel!)
The QuBE started with one HST modem and one dedicated phone line.
Ottawa had quite the BBS scene at the time.
hmmm…I was on Cyberus? Can’t remember if Magma bought Cyberus or vice versa. For a while. Then… dsl.ca…mixed in with Bell dialup… everyone jumped to “Rogers Wave” for a while when cable was king.
Looking forward to the day when wholesale competition comes to Bell’s GPON Fibe®.
Cyberus! Yes! I think you’re right there was a name change or merger or something.
@lorax it’s so weird seeing replies to my own Lemmy comments from Mastodon… It’s fediverses all the way down! 😄
