A Canadian man with a criminal record in his home country has been killed in a shooting at a mall in the Caribbean coast resort of Cancun, Mexican authorities said Wednesday.
What a bizarre headline and article. If we’re writing him off from the jump, then why even have an article about it?
Right? Seems like there are ways they could make that less one sided. “Unnamed Canadian man killed in Cancun; Mexican authorities say he had a record of gang activity”. And the preview contradicts the headline – was he killed at the resort or at a mall?
I think the implication is that he could have been involved in gang activity, whereas they couldn’t come out and state that as a fact without proof
Some of those resorts have malls built into them.
I haven’t seen a resort so big - even in the ZH - that it could hold an actual mall, but a mini mall for sure.
And if you’re near La Isla, it’s about the same thing.
One thing is for sure: given the stats over the last decade, if I ever got into some serious gangland drug-dealing, I’m not going to vacation in Cancun! Until then, though, it’s still safer than alternatives.
