Now I’m left hoping for a silent button upgrade 👀
Yeah, I can put up with mushy buttons if it lets me play in bed while my wife’s asleep.
My partner regularly asks when they’ll add a “girlfriend mode” for this reason. She likes having me in bed next to her, but doesn’t love the clicks.
I have some games where I’ve additionally bound the face buttons to light touches on the trackpad. Joysticks+triggers are usually quiet enough already, so being able to lightly touch the trackpad for quiet inputs makes it pretty quiet.
Obviously, it can’t be a real fast paced game, but it’s a decent compromise for games that are slower paced.
Throw some silicone joystick protector rings on your sticks if you haven’t. Makes the joystick almost completely silent even when I slam them against the shell, and as long as they’re seated right and clean they’ll still slide smoothly against the shell. Just make sure to run through the calibration script so you still have full joystick range after adding them
I’m intrigued and want to try them, but I worry the clicking noise would get annoying. I hold the deck a lot closer to my ears than my mouse usually is.
Yeah clicky buttons would drive me insane.
The switches used in the eXremeRate look to be rather close in size to the ones the deck uses for L1 & R1, so I would imagine the sound would be similar as well.
The only time I didn’t mind microswitches in a controller was the GBA SP. Not sure if it will be that good.
Yeah the SP is quite something special. It uses clicky buttons, but also keeps the rubber membranes which give it this softer clickiness. Not sure why Nintendo did that? Though to be fair it was also one of the first consoles to use clicky buttons, maybe they just hadn’t completely figured it out yet?
Got dayum was the SP a finely crafted device.
If this feel like the psvita buttons I would love it
Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. I refuse to use controllers without clicky buttons these days.
